Overview
The primary method used to connect to the UI FrontPage server is through WYSIWYG applications such as Microsoft FrontPage, Expression Web, and SharePoint Designer. However, you may also connect to the FrontPage server using Web Folders. This method allows PC users to drag and drop files directly into the folders on their Web site using Network Places.
Connect using Windows XP
- Open My Computer
- Click on My Network Places

- Select Add a network place
Note: If you don't see the Network Tasks pane down the left side of the screen, press the Folders icon located in the top menu.

- A wizard will pop up to guide you through the process of adding a new network place.
- Click Next

- Select Choose another network location
- Click Next

- Enter the web site URL address into the box:
Example: http://www.virtual.uidaho.edu/yoursite - Click Next

- Enter your myUIdaho account and password
- Click OK

- Enter a Title for your site. You will use this to identify your site within the My Network Places window.
- Click Next

- Ensure that the Open this network place when I click Finish is checked
- Press Finish

- Enter your myUIdaho account and password again
- Click OK

- Your site folder should now appear under My Network Places with the title you designated for it.
- Now you may drag & drop files directly from
your
desktop into your site folders.
NOTE: Avoid using special characters ( @ # % & ; ) in file names.

Connect using Windows Vista
- Open the Computer window
- Click on Map network drive

- Click on Connect to a Website that you can use to store your documents and pictures.
- Click Next

- Select Choose a custom network location

- Enter the web site URL address into the box including your username:
- Press Next
Example: http://username@www.virtual.uidaho.edu/yoursite

- Enter your myUIdaho account and password
- Press OK

- Enter a Title for your site. You will use this to identify your site within Network Places or Web Folders.
- Click Next

- Ensure that the Open this network location when I click Finish is checked
- Press Finish

- Enter your myUIdaho account and password again
- Press OK

- Your site should now appear in Windows Explorer under Computer with the title you designated for it
- Now you may drag & drop files directly from the desktop into your site folders.

NOTE: Avoid using special characters ( @ # % & ; ) in file names.
ATTN: Microsoft Updates for Windows Vista
Be sure that you have the latest critical and recommended updates from Microsoft for Windows Vista. There is a known issue for Web Folders on Vista which should be fixed with the Microsoft Updates.
