RE: Streaming Video/Audio URL Addresses Must Change
by 12/31/07
We are updating our streaming services over the Christmas break and will
be moving to a new server as part of that process. The new server must have
a different IP address for security reasons and thus, we need to change all
of the links that were using the old IP address convention over to the more
standard DNS naming convention (see example below). By making this change
now, the links to the audio and video files will continue to work throughout
the migration process. From this point forward, please make sure all links
to your streaming video/audio use the DNS name rather than the IP address.
We have worked to convert all of the links in the FrontPage sites that we
have access to. Please fix the links for sites you manage. Also, please use the new convention for all streaming
media links in the future.
Old method which will no longer be valid:
http://129.101.119.248:8080/ramgen/folder/filename.rm
New recommended method:
http://realvideo.uidaho.edu:8080/ramgen/folder/filename.rm
If you are using FrontPage for web sites that we do not have access to, you
have the option to fix the links using a bulk find and replace. This is very
accurate as well as save you a lot of time. To do this:
Following this procedure should change all of the IP address references in your site.
Please contact the CTI if you have questions about any of this
