FrontPage Server Upgrade

What's new regarding the FrontPage server?

The UI FrontPage service received an upgrade to its hardware. Existing FrontPage Web sites were migrated over to the new platform the week of December 18-22, 2006. This upgrade gives our FrontPage Web service improved performance, maintainability, stability, and security.

Who should I contact for help if I notice problems with my Web site?

After the migration to the new server, each UI FrontPage Web sites was audited for functionality. The CTI staff made corrections to Web sites when needed. However, something on your Web site may no longer function as it did before. Please contact the CTI (208-885-2121, cti@uidaho.edu) for help in resolving any issues as soon as you notice them.

What changes should I notice?

  • All Web site URL addresses remain the same as before.
  • All FrontPage Web site author passwords remain the same as before.
  • Passwords requirements strengthened for accounts used with Secure Web sites:
    All FrontPage Web site author passwords remain the same. However, the password requirements for the new server have been updated to meet the greater security standards we have for UI accounts. This means that the accounts used to give student's access to protected web sites may no longer work for your Web site. Please contact the CTI (208-885-2121, cti@uidaho.edu) to update a secure password if it no longer works for you.
  • The FrontPage Hit Counter component is no longer supported:
    The FrontPage hit counter component no longer works and will not be made available in the future for web sites on this server. We removed the hit counters existing FrontPage webs. Individuals that have used the FrontPage hit counter in the past may use the FrontPage usage reporting tools to determine usage per Web page. Alternatively, they may use an external hit counter to determine of the number of visitors for a Web page.

Additional Information

Microsoft FrontPage 2003 is the last version of FrontPage being produced by Microsoft. The University of Idaho and Microsoft will continue to support FrontPage into the foreseeable future as we have a very large user base.
