RE:     University of Idaho Exchange e-mail upgrade is now available

If you are a UI Faculty or Staff member, you may upgrade your e-mail accounts to Exchange at any time. Below is the procedure for upgrading. We do not recommend upgrading during weekends or evenings as the Help Desk is not available.

Exchange Training Available
ITS will be providing additional Exchange training. We will e-mail the times of these trainings when the schedule is confirmed.

Upgrading to Office 2007
ITS strongly suggests everyone on a Windows-based machine upgrade to Office 2007 before upgrading to Exchange. Using Outlook 2007 will enable you to take full advantage of all the Exchange features.

Migration Procedures

  1. Make sure you’re prepared for Exchange.
    • Operating System: Make sure your OS is fully patched and updated prior to connecting to Exchange.
      • Windows: Windows XP SP2 or greater
      • Apple: OS X
    • Client: Outlook 2007 or Entourage 2004 (Outlook 2003 is supported, however ITS recommends you upgrade to the latest version to take full advantage of the features.) Outlook 2007 is available for download at http://www.support.uidaho.edu/Software
    • Make sure to install all security patches and updates for your client.
    • Clean your e-mail account by archiving old e-mails and deleting files from both the ‘Junk Mail’ and ‘Deleted Items’ folders.
    • Visit the Exchange Web site (link provided in the Connect to Exchange section below) and review documentation pertaining to your e-mail client.
  2. Initiate the self migration process.
    • Log into the Support website http://www.support.uidaho.edu.
    • Click on the ‘Upgrade to Exchange’ link in the menu on the left-hand side.
    • Read the instructions and warnings before clicking on Step 3 to upgrade your account.
    • Wait 10 minutes for the accounts to activate.
  3. Connect to Exchange.

Things to remember:

  1. Exchange will use your Novell/AD password to authenticate. This may be a different password than you have been using for e-mail services.
  2. Visit the Exchange FAQ page for more information http://www.support.uidaho.edu/Exchange.
  3. If you need assistance please contact the ITS Help Desk at helpdesk@uidaho.edu, or call 208-885-HELP (4357). For walk-in assistance, visit us at our new location in the Idaho Commons/Teaching & Learning Center, TLC 128.
  4. OnTime will remain the official campus-wide calendaring system of the University of Idaho until all customers have been fully migrated to Exchange. ITS will send out additional information about how and when the University will discontinue using OnTime in the future. More information is available on the Exchange FAQ page at http://www.support.uidaho.edu/Exchange.
