How do I access my course?

You will login to Blackboard http://www.blackboard.uidaho.edu/ with your UI computer account, which is the same as Novell, and the student computer labs. You may contact the ITS Help Desk if you're having trouble logging in.

Why are there no courses in my course list?

The instructor has not yet added students to the Blackboard course space.

The left menu disappeared, how do I get it back?

The Blackboard menu retracts automatically. There is a double arrow bar between the navigation and the course content, that toggles the menu open and closed. [more info...] 

How do I fix problems with my Java plug-in?

How do I troubleshoot a file that won't upload/download?

Often times this is due to security settings in Internet Explorer. Be sure that you computer has been setup to properly run with Blackboard. [more info...]

Another possibility is that there are special character in the file name. Files should contain no special characters (!@#$%&*) in their names. [more info...]

Why is Blackboard slow to respond sometimes?

Several conditions can contribute to slow response times from Blackboard:
  • Peak Internet usage on the networks between you and Blackboard can contribute to slowness issues.

  • Blackboard is fairly heavy, as internet applications go. High Speed internet connections are recommended.
  • Ensure your browser is configured correctly for Blackboard. [more info...]
  • Review your computer's resources and turn off non-critical applications.

Why don’t some links work?

There are a number of reasons why some links might not work correctly in Blackboard.
  • Check that you don't have a pop-up blocker turned on [more info...]

  • If additional software such as Microsoft Word is required to view the linked document ensure that you have that software installed and operating correctly

Why won't the Assessment Window open up?

Disable all pop-up blocker software in your Web Browser, and in external applications such as Google and Yahoo Tool Bars, and Norton Internet Security. [more info...]

I am getting a JavaScript error. What should I do?

  • If you encounter a JavaScript error when you begin a quiz, shut down your Web browser completely and restart it.
  • Ensure that your Browser is Setup for Blackboard [more info...]

Why did some of my responses to the assessment questions not get submitted?

My Computer/Browser crashed during my Assessment (Quiz). What should I do?

If you experience a session timeout after 30 minutes of inactivity or if you experience a Web browser or computer crash during an assessment, all previously saved answers should still be there when you begin the assessment again. When you log back into the Blackboard assessment, click the Continue button to finish the assessment.

Note: Time remaining for an assessment counts down in "real-time" and decreases even when you are not logged into Blackboard.

Why can’t I see my grade in the grades area?

If you can't see a grade in your MyGrades area it is possible that your instructor has not yet released the grades. Contact your instructor if you still have questions. [more info...]

Why can’t I upload my file to the Assignment Tool?

Why doesn't an assignment show up in the Assignment's Inbox?

If a link for an assignment is not available in the Inbox tab of Assignments, one of two things may be occurring:
  • You may be trying to submit an assignment after (or before) the time period the assignment submittal is available. [more info...]
  • You may have already submitted an assignment and your instructor has chosen to allow only one submittal per assignment per student. Contact your instructor and ask them to return your assignment to you for further editing, if you need to submit additional materials.

I have submitted part 1 of an assignment and I am ready to submit part 2, but the link is no longer available. What do I do now?

If you have more than one document to submit when completing an assignment, be sure to attach every file for the assignment using the Add Attachments button BEFORE pressing the Submit button. [more info...]

If you submitted a partial assignment in error, contact your instructor and ask them to return your assignment to you for further editing. Once returned, you may repeat the submittal process—this time submitting all files required at once.  

I submitted an assignment, but when I check on its status now, it is not listed in the Inbox. Was my assignment submitted successfully?

  • Click the Submitted Tab to see the assignments that have been submitted, but not yet graded.
  • Click the Graded Tab to see the assignments that have been graded. They will be listed under this tab for the remainder of the course.

How well did I do on an assignment?

Once the assignment has been graded, click on the Graded tab in Assignments to see your grade and to read the instructor's comments about your submitted work. [more info...]

I just submitted my assignment. How long will it take until it is graded?

Assignments for your course are graded by the course's grading staff (Professor or TA's). Generally, assignments are not graded until after their availability time period is over.
