Overview


The tutorial below describes how to check your computer using Blackboard's Browser Checker to ensure that Blackboard will work correctly for you.

For Internet Explorer users, this document also shows how to modify the Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) settings to allow Blackboard to function without the interruption of security prompts by designating Blackboard as a trusted site and allowing the following operations to occur unprompted for trusted sites: Document Downloading, Mixed Content Pages, and Pop-up Windows.

  1. Check your Web Browser's compatibility with Blackboard
  2. Accept Security Certificate, Enable Java, JavaScript, & Cookies
  3. Disable Pop-up Blockers

  • Go to Blackboard www.blackboard.uidaho.edu
  • You must click Yes or Always to accept the Security Certificate if it appears
  • Click the Browser Checker button

Browser Check Results
Green Check

If you see all Green Checks:

If you see all Green Checks, but are still having problems:
Please try the following:

  1. Close & Restart your Web Browser
  2. Reboot your computer
  3. Use a different Web Browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari)
  4. Uninstall all previous versions of Java, and Reinstall (See Java Help)
    NOTE: Vista users should uninstall and reinstall Java
  5. Use a different Computer
  6. Contact the ITS Help DeskLeaving this Site

If you see a Red X Error :
Follow the instructions provided to fix the problem(s) indicated.

STEP 1) Go to: Blackboard Browser Support

STEP 2) Select your Operating System

STEP 3) Select your Web Browser

STEP 4) Ensure that your browser is supported

  • The Blackboard Browser Checker Results indicates the Blackboard version in use
  • Need a new Browser? See the resources below.

STEP 5) Scroll down to Prepare Your Browser Settings

  1. Enable Java
  2. Enable JavaScript
  3. Enable Cookies
  4. Disable Pop-Up Blockers
  5. Depending on  your browser, you may have additional settings to setup

STEP 6) Run the Browser Checker until you receive all Green Check marks.

Additional Setup Microsoft Internet Explorer

Set Blackboard as Trusted Site

  • Open the Internet Explorer web browser
  • Select Tools , then Internet Options

  • Select the Security tab
  • Select the zone Trusted Sites
  • Press the Sites button

  • Uncheck Require server verification (https:)
  • Add *.blackboard.uidaho.edu to the zone

    OPTIONAL:
    Add *.uidaho.edu instead to trust ALL sites in the University of Idaho domain.
     
  • Press the Add button

add *blackboard.uidaho.edu to trusted sites list
 

Modify Trusted Site Settings (IE only)

 
  • Ensure that Trusted Sites is selected under the Security Tab for Internet Options.
  • Select the Custom level... button

  • Scroll down to the Downloads section
  • Select Enable under Automatic prompting for file downloads

  • Scroll down to the Miscellaneous section
  • Select Enable under Display mixed content

Enable the Display mixed content

  • Scroll down to Use Pop-up Blocker within the Miscellaneous section
  • Select Disable and press OK to finish

  • Restart Internet Explorer (IE) and you are ready to use Blackboard.
