OverviewOne of the functions of the File Manager is to hold the documents you will be distributing to your students. The following tutorial shows several methods for uploading files from your computer into your Blackboard course for use in the various tools. You may upload files using the built tools of Blackboard or you may use WebDAV to remotely connect to your course on the desktop of your PC. Option 1: Upload with File ManagerUsing the File Manager to upload files is the preferred method for most individuals using Blackboard. Its only requirement is a browser. Although it does not provide a "drag and drop" interface for file upload and management, it has the advantage of not requiring the additional setup and overhead that the WebDAV methods listed below require. If you have a lot of folders and files to upload and you wish to use this method, be sure to create a Zip folder of your files prior to upload which allows you to upload just a single file (i.e. the Zipped folder). Once the Zip folder is uploaded into Blackboard, unzip it to place all of your files into Blackboard's File Manager.Option 2: Drag & Drop Files into the File ManagerThis method is the preferred file upload method for individuals wishing to have a "drag and drop" interface for file upload and management. It does require additional setup and may need to be refreshed from time to time due to connection instability. But if you have a lot of files to upload and work with, you may prefer this method. See the tutorial specific to your Operating System, and application preference:
File RecommendationOur recommendation is to use either HTML or PDF formatted documents to deliver your materials to your students. HTML files are native to the web, and many applications can save out as a Web Page/HTML option. PDF files are less confusing than documents in their original format such as Word or Excel for students to view and/or download from your site. These file types will reduce the time required in supporting your students with download issues. A PDF Creation Tutorial is available for installing the free Microsoft Office 2007 PDF plug-in. This tutorial also references other free and pay-for PDF solutions. For more information on this, please review the Content Delivery Recommendations. WARNING: Avoid using special characters ( @ # % & ; ) in filenames and titles. If you have questions about
