Overview

The Course Roster Tool allows the Instructor/Designer of a Blackboard course to manage the enrollments of their courses. You may attach a Banner Course Registration Number (CRN) to automatically push your students into your course. You may also add Non-Registered people such as TA's, fellow instructors, sponsored accounts, WSU students and, auditing students.

Enroll Students with CRN

TOP

The following steps are for adding registered students by Course Registration Number (CRN). Please add all non-registered individuals such as sponsored accounts, TAs and other designers using the Add Non-Registered Individuals method.

  • Go to Blackboard and log in
  • Once in the My UI area, look under the Campus Bookmarks heading and click on Course Roster Tools

  • Sign in with your Blackboard/Novell username and password.
  • You will see information about FERPA. Please read this carefully, and press I agree.

  • Click the Select button next to the Course Title of the appropriate Blackboard course.

  • Use the Select CRN pull down menu to select the appropriate CRN to add to the Blackboard course.
  • Click the Enroll button. The screen will refresh, showing the CRN you have added.

Note: If you do not see the CRNs associated with your classes, contact your department and have them officially associate you as an Instructor of Record for the class in BANNER.

  • Repeat as necessary to add multiple CRNs (sections) to the same class.
Attention: Changes made to BANNER's roster for the CRN are also pushed into your Blackboard class daily every hour.

  • You may click the Manage Members tab to see a detailed list of students that will be added to the course.

Note: If your class roster is large, this screen may take a long time to load.

  • Students will continue to be automatically added as they register for your class during the first part of the semester.
  • Each student will be sent an automated email (View Sample Email) to their UI email address with instructions on how to access Blackboard. Still, we suggest that each instructor inform their students that they expect them to use Blackboard, direct them to the Blackboard - www.blackboard.uidaho.edu, and assist them in logging on. Doing this face-to-face, by email, or by phone will help guarantee your students understand the process.

  • If you wish to add students to another course, click Switch Course.

  • To go back to Blackboard, Close the Course Roster Tool window.
  • Your students will be added in the next hour. Please visit Teach Tab > Grade Book inside your course to see your course roster inside the Blackboard Course.

  • Note: Idaho Falls students may not show up on your roster immediately. It may take several days after the ISU registration for the student to appear in the UI BANNER registration system. Idaho Falls students must appear in the UI BANNER registration system before they are automatically added to a Blackboard course via the CRN.
  • If your students in Idaho Falls do not appear on your course roster and they need immediate access, contact Alice Allen in Idaho Falls. She is the primary contact for the UI registration for all Idaho Falls students.

Sponsored Account, TA, Instructor, Auditor, Guests, WSU Students, etc.

The following steps show how to add non-registered designers, TAs, and students (including individuals from WSU & OSU). Please add all registered students using the Enroll Students with CRN method.

If the individual is not a member of the UI community, request a Sponsored Account for them before proceeding. A student taking a course from WSU or OSU, for example, may not be registered in BANNER and will need a UI sponsored account.

  • Go to Blackboard and log in
  • Once in the myUI area, look under the Campus Bookmarks area and click on Course Roster Tools

  • Sign in with your Blackboard/Novell username and password. You will see information about FERPA. Please read this carefully, and press I agree.

  • Click the Select button next to the Course Title of the appropriate Blackboard course.

  • Next, select the Enroll Other Members Tab.
  • Type in a username and click the GO button.

Note: You may also search by Name, Student ID number, V-Number, or Vandal Live E-mail Account.

  • If your search finds the correct individual, select the type of user access they need:

    • Student: Students appear in the course roster.
    • Auditor: Auditors are similar to student accounts, but can not receive grades.
    • Teaching Assistant: TA's manage student grades, but cannot edit the course content
    • Instructor/Designer: Instructor/Designers manage all aspects of a course.

  • Press the Enroll button. The individual will be added to your course within 5 minutes.

  • If you wish to add students to another course, click Switch Course.

  • To go back to Blackboard, Close the Course Roster Tool window.
  • Your students should be added to your Blackboard course within 5 minutes after you press the Enroll button.
  • Each student will be sent an automated email (View Sample Email) to their UI email address with instructions on how to access Blackboard. Note: Designers and TAs will NOT be sent this email. We suggest that each instructor inform their students that they expect them to use Blackboard, direct them to the Blackboard - www.blackboard.uidaho.edu, and assist them in logging on. Doing this face-to-face, by email, or by phone will help guarantee your students understand the process.
  • Please visit Teach Tab > Grade Book inside your course to see your course roster inside the Blackboard Course.
