Multiple Sections of a Course?
May I add multiple sections of a course to a Blackboard site?
Yes, you may run as many sections of a course through a
single Blackboard site as you wish.
After pressing Enroll on the first CRN, select each additional
CRN, and press Enroll for those as well. There are pluses and minuses to
adding multiple sections to a single Blackboard site.
|
PRO: |
CON: |
| Duplication of work is reduced or even eliminated
if the two sections require the exact same content and run on the same
timeline. |
The grade book will be more complicated if it
contains
multiple sections. Additionally, if there are scheduled components
(assessments, assignments, etc.), their due dates need to be the same for all sections. |
Your student's Section Number, Student ID, and preferred Email Address information do not automatically show up in the Blackboard grade book. However, you
may add this additional information to the grade book and then sort by section number.
Attention: Changes made to BANNER's roster for the CRN
are also pushed into your Blackboard class daily
every hour.
There are two possible
reasons why you may not see all your CRNs:
- CRNs are available 30 days before the semester begins. Are you
attempting to add students prior to that time?
- You may not be listed as an Instructor of Record in Banner. Contact your department and have them officially associate
you as an Instructor of Record for the class.
-
Students will continue to be automatically added as they
register for your class during the first part of the semester.
-
Each student will be sent an automated email
(View
Sample Email) to their UI email address with instructions on how
to access Blackboard. Still, we suggest that each instructor inform
their students that they expect them to use Blackboard, direct them to
the
Blackboard
- www.blackboard.uidaho.edu, and assist them in logging on.
Doing this face-to-face, by email, or by phone will help guarantee your
students understand the process.
View User List
- You may click the Manage Members tab to see a
detailed list of students that will be or have been added to the course.
Note: If your class roster is large, this screen may take a long
time to load.

Add Users to another Course
- If you wish to add students to another course, click Switch
Course.

View User List in Blackboard
- To go back to
Blackboard,
Close the Course Roster Tool window
- Your students will be added in the next hour
- Go to
Teach Tab, then Grade Book inside your course to see
your course roster

Idaho Falls Users
Idaho Falls students may not show up on your roster
immediately. It may take several days after the ISU registration for the
student to appear in the UI BANNER registration system. Idaho Falls
students must appear in the UI BANNER registration system before they
are automatically added to a Blackboard course via the CRN.
If your students in Idaho Falls do not appear on your course roster
and they need immediate access, contact Alice Allen in Idaho Falls. She
is the primary contact for the UI registration of Idaho Falls
students.

Sponsored Account, TA, Instructor, Auditor, Guests, WSU Students, etc.
The following steps show how to add
non-registered designers, TAs, and students (including
individuals from WSU & OSU). (Please add all registered students
using the
Enroll Students with CRN method.)
If the individual is not a member of the UI community, request a
Sponsored Account for them before proceeding. A student
taking a course from WSU or OSU, for example, may not be registered
in BANNER and will need a myUIdaho account for access into
Blackboard.
Is the sponsorship process necessary for every WSU student?
Maybe not......If
your WSU students are listed in Vandalweb under your class section,
you may not need to sponsor them. They may already have a myUIdaho account. They
should have received an email from the ITS Help Desk titled “University of Idaho Computer
Account Creation….” which asks them to pre-create a myUIdaho
account. If they followed these instructions, they already have a myUIdaho
account. Ask your WSU students to send you their myUIdaho
account
so that you may add them individually to your Blackboard course per the
Add Non-Registered Users
instructions below.
What if a WSU student does not have a myUIdaho account?
Remind your WSU students to follow the
directions in the ITS Help Desk email titled “University of Idaho Computer
Account Creation….”. The
Help Desk relies on WSU to pass UI information about WSU students—if WSU
has not informed us about a particular student in advance, then you must follow the traditional
Sponsored Account process to have a myUIdaho account created for
them.
- Go to
Blackboard and log in
- Look under the
Campus Bookmarks area and click on Course Roster Tools

- Sign in with your
myUIdaho account and password. You will
see information about
FERPA. Please read this carefully, and press I agree.

- Click the Select button next to the Course
Title
of the appropriate Blackboard course.

- Next, select the Enroll Other Members Tab.
- Type in a username and click the GO button.
Note: Entering the username is the most reliable way to find
an individual. You may also search by Name, Student ID
number,
V-Number, or Vandal Live E-mail Account. When
searching by Name, capital letters are required for the first
letter of each name. Use % as a wildcard whenever you are not sure of
the spelling. For Example, Jo Vandal will not result in a
successful search for Joseph Vandal, whereas J% Vandal
will result in a successful search.

- If your search finds the correct individual, select the type of user
access they need:
- Student: Students appear in the course roster.
- Auditor: Auditors are similar to student accounts,
but can not receive grades.
- Teaching Assistant: TA's manage student grades, but
cannot edit the course content.
- Instructor/Designer: Instructor/Designers manage all
aspects of a course.
- Press the Enroll button. The individual will be added to your
course within 5 minutes.

-
Your students should be added to your Blackboard course within
10
minutes after you press the Enroll button.
- Each student will be sent an automated email
(View
Sample Email) to their UI email address with instructions on how
to access Blackboard.
Note: Designers and TAs will NOT be
sent this email. We suggest that each instructor inform their
students that they expect them to use Blackboard, direct them to the

this face-to-face, by email, or by phone will help guarantee your
