The Student View tab allows you to see and interact with Blackboard exactly as your students do. Blackboard provides each course with a Demo Student account for testing. This Demo Student account is used when you take quizzes and submit assignments while in the Student View tab. In the Student View, you are able to see exactly what your students see including the My Grades tool. Use the Student View tab whenever you have a question about how your students will view and work in your Blackboard course.

Best Practices

Save each answer promptly
Always save each answer promptly as you move through an assessment to ensure it is recorded before any technical difficulties can occur. Return to any previously answered questions, change your answers, and press the save buttons again anytime during the assessment.

When a system error displays, log out of Bb immediately before continuing
A technical issue may occur during an assessment which causes an Error to display on the right side panel of the quiz screen. Once you see this error, all subsequent answers ARE NOT SAVED.

Error Appears here

If the assessment is interrupted or crashes while you are in the middle of taking it, immediately log out of Blackboard and then log back in to continue. All answers saved prior to the error's appearance are saved and you should be able to continue taking the assessment as long as the allotted time for the assessment has not expired.

NOTE: Time remaining for an assessment counts down in "real-time" and decreases even when you are not logged into Blackboard.

  Delivery Methods

Three question delivery methods are available. Your ability to revisit questions to change your answers depends on which method has been selected by your instructor:
  • If questions appear all at once...
answer them in any order. Save each answer IMMEDIATELY as you complete it. Return to previously answered questions and change your answers at any time. Navigate back to any question by scrolling directly to it or by clicking on the linked question number under Question Status (located in the right panel of your quiz screen).
  • If questions appear one at a time and you are allowed to revisit questions...

  Tips

  • Do NOT navigate away from an assessment while you are taking it
Do not navigate away from your Blackboard assessment or course while taking an assessment—or risk losing your work! If you open an assessment into a popup window and then browse back to the course listing page from the main window, your subsequent answers will APPEAR to save in the assessment popup window, but these answers ARE NOT SAVED.
  • Save answers every time you make a change
Save any changes by pressing the save button for that question again.
  • Disable all pop-up blockers
If all Pop-Up Blockers have not been disabled, serious problems will occur for you when you attempt to take an assessment.
  • Use caution while scrolling with your mouse
Watch out for any inadvertent changes made when using a scrolling mouse.
